In Her Shade

 This linocut block print pays homage to queer ancestors who lived in the shtetlekh of Eastern Europe. In the midst of their labors–here, spinning wool and harvesting apples–they found moments of sweetness and connection. The title references Song of Solomon 2:3.

Beatrice Baltuck Alder (they/she) is agenderqueer artist and writer based in
New Bedford, Massachusetts. They drawinspiration from the Jewish folklore of
Eastern Europe, Yiddish language andliterature, and queer history to create
objects imbued with story.
